A Permanent Move Could Qualify You for a Special Enrollment Period
Have you just moved or are planning to move?
Sometimes, when you move, your health coverage you had before won’t cover the area you move to. Don’t worry though: permanently moving to an area that offers different coverage options is a qualifying life event. This means that you will enter a Special Enrollment Period that allows you to enroll yourself or your family in a new qualified health plan that fits your family in your new coverage area.
Moving can be difficult and an extremely drawn out process. There is a limit to this Special Enrollment Period. If you wish to switch plans, you must do so within 60 days of your move date.
In order to prove that you did experience this qualifying life event and begin a Special Enrollment Period, you will likely be asked to provide documentation of your move. This could include utility bills or a rental agreement that prove you did permanently move to a new area.
